What does the workshop cost?

Tuition for a Prizewinning Photography 2 workshop is $424 for the course and materials. ($399 for early registrations received 6-weeks prior to the workshop start date.) A $100 deposit is required to reserve your spot, with the remainder due upon arrival. This tuition ($424) covers instructor and material fees, transportation to and from shoot locations, airport shuttle, and all required film and processing.

Housing and meals are location specific (averaging $300 for housing and $125 for meals). These costs will cover room and board from Sunday night through Saturday morning. Students requiring additional time at the facility will be charged an additional fee, and will need to make special arrangements.

How long are the workshops?

IPS workshops begin with an orientation session at 7:00 P.M. Sunday. Daily training starts at 8:00 A.M. and ends by 9:00 P.M. (M-F). The workshop will close on Friday evening by 9:00 P.M.

Students flying should plan to arrive between 10 A.M. and 4 P.M. on Sunday, and depart after 9:00 A.M. the following Saturday. Airport runs outside of these time frames will be charged an additional airport shuttle fee.

What are the course prerequisites?

Students must have previously attended a Prizewinning Photography course.

What equipment is required for Prizewinning Photography II?

Each student needs:

  • Digital camera (manual control of the aperture and shutter speed!)
  • Camera manual
  • Shoe mounted flash
  • Extra or rechargeable batteries (camera and flash)
  • TTL Flash sync cord
  • Photographic reflector
  • Personal computer (see below...)

What kind of computer is required for Prizewinning Photography II?

Windows computers will be running Picasa2 and Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0. Picasa2 is available as a free download from http://picasa.google.com/. Students should purchase a copy of Photoshop Elements 5.0 before the course. (If this is not possible, or if students own the full version of Photoshop, we will have demo software available.)
System Requirements:

  • Intel PIII, P4, Centrino, Intel Core 2 Duo (or compatible) 800mhz or better processor
  • Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista
  • 256MB RAM (512MB+ Highly Recommended)
  • 3GB free disk space
  • 1024x768 (XGA) or better display

Macintosh computers will be running iPhoto 6 and Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0. iPhoto 6 comes will all new Macintosh systems or is available from http://store.apple.com. Students should purchase a copy of Photoshop Elements 4.0 before the course. (If this is not possible, or if students own the full version of Photoshop, we will have demo software available.)

What about the dress code?

In order to maintain professional decorum, workshop attendees are requested to abide by the following guidelines for the duration of the course.

  • Casual, modest-fitting slacks or skirts at least knee-length when sitting.
  • Athletic pants or jeans (sorry, no shorts) for afternoon free time and recreation
  • Clean-cut polo shirts, button-down shirts, or t-shirts free of graphics or writing.
  • Comfortable shoes for extended periods of walking.
  • These are not intended to guide your choice of clothing at home, but rather to promote a consistent standard for those attending our workshops.

    Can I get college credit for this course?

    Currently, IPS is not a degree granting institution. However, we are rating Prizewinning Photography 2 at 2 credit hours. Each student who completes Prizewinning Photography is provided with a course description and transcript to help them transfer these credits to another institution.
